Visiting FRIEND

We are now closed to visitors for the winter. We will be open again in late spring 2018 - we will make an announcement closer to the time.

In summer we also have Open Days, where we have fun games, food for humans as well as animal feeding. We also have a music festival which is always around the 2nd or 3rd weekend in July. Keep an eye on our events page for more details.

Volunteer days

We are not open for visitors in winter, as it can get very muddy, but we still run volunteer days throughout winter.

If you’re coming by train there are two options. Paddock Wood has more regular trains so it’s best to go to if you’re coming from afar. The number 6 bus runs from the station to near the sanctuary - about a 10 minute walk. Busses do not run on Sundays.

The second option is Beltring station. It's about a 35 minute walk from there. You do have to cross a dual carriage way, so please be careful.

There are bus links from Tunbridge Wells. The bus also passes through Paddock Wood, which is where the train station is. Busses do not run on Sundays.

You can park outside the sanctuary, as close to the fence as you safely can. Please do not park outside the neighbour’s properties. If there is no space, please ask a member of staff where you can park.

The site is flat, although it can be a little bumpy in the field. There is concrete and hard standing from the front gates up to the field, however the kitchen and toilets are in the field. The path up to the kitchen is grass but flat and compacted. The compost toilets have 4 wide steps up to them, and there is an additional accessible compost toilet at ground level, with a wide door. Any other questions please ask, we want to make the sanctuary as accessible as possible to everyone. Send an email to with ‘Accessibility’ in the subject line.

Please do not bring your dog friends along because the animals are out and about. Thanks!
